Privacy Policy

Effective: January 2025. We care about your privacy and keep this in plain language.

The short version

We collect only what we need to run the site and your account. We don’t sell your data, we don’t share it with advertisers, and we don’t use it to target you with ads. You can ask for a copy of your data or to delete it anytime.

What we collect

  • Account info — Email, username, and a hashed password when you sign up.
  • What you post — Forum posts, diary entries, photos, profile details, and anything else you add to the site.
  • Technical basics — Logs (e.g. IP, browser) to help us run the site, fix problems, and protect against abuse. We don’t use these to track you around the internet.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t sell your data.
  • We don’t share it with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We don’t use your data for targeted or third‑party advertising.

How we use your information

To run WhippetWire: let you sign in, post, and use your diary; display your profile and content as you choose; keep the site secure and fix bugs; and improve the service. If we ever add analytics, we’ll choose privacy‑friendly options and say so here.

Where it’s stored

Your data is stored with our hosting and database providers (for example Supabase or similar services we use to run the site). They hold it only so we can operate WhippetWire—we don’t let them use it for their own marketing or ads.

Cookies

We use only what’s needed: to keep you logged in and to remember basic preferences. We don’t use third‑party advertising or tracking cookies. You can turn off or block cookies in your browser, but some features (like staying logged in) may not work.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data, correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also close your account. We’ll handle requests in a reasonable time. If you’re in a place with stronger privacy laws (e.g. the EU or California), you may have additional rights (like data portability or objecting to certain uses); we’ll respect those too.

Kids

The site is meant to be safe for all ages to view with a parent, but accounts are for people 13 and over. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger. If you’re a parent and think we have, please contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page from time to time. If we make a meaningful change, we’ll post the new version and note it on the site (or by email when we can). The “Effective” date at the top will change.
